Domaine de la Bastide Neuve
Côtes de Provence

The story of Domaine de la Bastide Neuve began in 1988, when Hugo and Nicole Wiestner fell in love with its typical Provençal country house, built in 1820 and surrounded by vineyards and pine trees. Today the domaine has two vineyards: the Plaine des Maures (42 acres) and the Muraires (25 acres). All 67 acres have the advantage of a sub-soil that is sandy in some places and clay/chalky in others, allowing the cultivation of resplendently healthy vines with perfect grapes.

Grapes are hand-harvested as part of a carefully balanced agricultural program that does not include the use of weed killers or pesticides. The domaine’s total production is only 120,000 bottles a year for red, white, and rosé wines. In 1997, the domaine began reintroducing the traditional 600-liter oak cask (“boute”) for aging its red wines, in place of the newer 225-liter barrique. The larger cask is more fitting, as the reds have very ripe tannins and therefore need less wood and oxygen. The resulting wines are more balanced, with finer tannins.
