Domaine de Fontlade
Coteaux Varois en Provence,
Côtes de Provence
The two estates of Domaine de Fontlade, which lie along the former Roman road called the Via Aurelia, have been written about since the 10th century but probably date back to Roman times. Up to the late 18th century, both were owned by the famous Abbaye de Saint-Victor -- once the richest abbey in Provence. The present owner's father bought the two estates in 1942, and they remain in her hands to this day. In 2000 the winemaking equipment was thoroughly renovated and modernized, and new winemaking techniques were introduced.
