After its creation by the Knights Templar in the 13th century, this domaine has belonged successively to the Count of Les Baux and the Arbaud de Bargemon and Thomassin Bargemon family, which gave their name to the property. Winemaking, and rosé production in particular, have always been good at Cave de la Bargemone. In 2006, winemaker Claude Marriottini hired a new assistant, Pierre Deshors, whose primary responsibility is to improve the vineyard. His changes have already had an effect on overall wine quality. Today's rosé is essentially a 40/40/20 blend of Grenache/Cinsault/Syrah. The domaine's white and red wines are perhaps more improved than the rosé, which has always been very good. For white, the yields of Ugni Blanc have been cut, adding to concentration and giving more play to the lively character of Bargemone's Sauvignon Blanc. For red, lower yields again have made a difference, as has canopy management, resulting in a more polished wine. |
